Matt Brooks
Matt Brooks, Ph.D., (he/his) is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. Drawing upon mixed method approaches, his research primarily focuses on identifying and understanding how strengths can be used to enhance well-being in people exposed to adversity. Dr. Brooks’ has a particular interest in
psychosocial and environmental influences on posttraumatic growth and resilience. He has secondary interests that explore the psychosocial impacts of cumulative adversity and victimisation, systemic trauma in the criminal justice system, and actively engages in research efforts that inform policy and practice in relation to juror wellbeing. Dr. Brooks co-led the launch of the UK’s first Jury Duty Appreciation Week in 2024, and regularly shares his knowledge with the public through various print and online media platforms. Dr. Brooks has previous clinical experience as an Assistant Psychologist conducting therapeutic work with young people in community settings.
